• Possible Solution for Software Firewalls and XP Service Pack 2
  The Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrade might cause problems with your software firewall, if installed while the firewall is running. We suggest that you first create a restore point. If anything goes wrong with the installation, then you can always go back to that restore point. Download the full installation file of the service pack from the Microsoft web site. The file should be around 266MB. After downloading the service pack, disconnect from the internet and deactivate the load at startup option for your firewall under the options tools or configutation settings. Example, in ZoneAlarm, go to the Overview tab, click the Preferences tab and uncheck "Load Zonealarm at startup". Now shut down your firewall along with any other programs you have on (especially antivirus programs) and install the service pack. After you finish installing the service pack, load up your firewall and check it to load at startup again. You will probably recieve alerts about changed programs trying to access the internet. Check your program permissions to ensure that everything is correct. and reconnect the computer to the internet.
